Initial Guidance
Feeling unsure about your initial professional therapy or assessment is very common. For further information or general inquiries, please contact us by email. We will typically respond by email within 24 hours.
We truly enjoy our work and find it to be a privilege to assist those who place their trust in us.
Our Appointment Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or change any appointment please do allow us a minimum of 24 hours notice so that we may fill time reserved for you with someone from our waiting list. There is no service fee for the first missed appointment as we understand that sometimes things happen and we all make mistakes. However, the full session charge will apply to subsequent missed appointments.
Our cancellation policy will not apply when events occur that are reasonably outside your control such as weather related events, health issues, or other emergencies.
Missed appointment fees are not covered by private insurance plans.

Valued Action Psychological does not offer emergency mental health services. If you are experiencing an immediate crisis, please go to your closest emergency department or call or text 9-8-8 (24/7).

Confidentiality and Digital Privacy
We are fully committed to protecting your privacy. All client information shared during therapy or psychological assessment sessions, along with all clinical records, is kept confidential and securely maintained.
There are certain rare situations in which we may need to disclose information where permitted or required by law. Your psychologist will review these situations with you before service commences.
Confidentiality is fundamental to our practice. We make every attempt possible to ensure that the rights and privacy of clients are respected. All information disclosed within sessions and the written records pertaining to those sessions are confidential and may not be revealed to anyone without your written permission except where disclosure is required by law.
Any information you provide us is confidential and will not be released without first obtaining your informed, voluntary, and written consent. However, there are certain rare situations in which we may need to release or discuss information related to your file. These situations are:
- If your therapist determines that you pose a serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else. Limited information may be released to emergency responders, healthcare providers, and/or your emergency contact if needed to protect your safety or the safety of others.
- If there is suspicion or disclosure of abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or vulnerable person, reporting to appropriate authorities is required.
- If there is reasonable grounds to believe that another regulated professional has engaged in professional misconduct or poses a risk to the public information may be disclosed to the appropriate regulatory body.
- If we are required by law to release information in your file (e.g., due to a legal subpoena, WCB claim, court ordered therapy).
- During a peer consultation with another licensed professionals or the purpose of providing high-quality care. Identifying information is shared only when necessary.
- If your insurance company requires us to verify your contact with our service as required for reimbursement.
- If payment for services is not made, limited information may be disclosed as necessary to pursue collection
We use Jane, a Canadian practice management platform designed for healthcare providers, to securely manage appointments and provide encrypted video sessions. Jane is widely used across Canada and offers features designed to support compliance with applicable privacy legislation, including Nova Scotia’s Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). We use Google Workspace, a secure cloud-based platform, for communication and administrative functions. Google Workspace provides security and encryption features designed to support healthcare providers in meeting applicable privacy obligations, including Nova Scotia’s Personal Health Information Act (PHIA). We offer the option of connecting with therapy clients through video and phone sessions, as well as in person.
Initial steps of assessment services can typically be completed virtually as well, though in most circumstances testing does need to be completed in person.
